McConnico-Bouju Scholarships celebrate a friendship made at The Daily Texan

Two annual scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to University of Texas at Austin students who are on the staff of The Daily Texan newspaper. The scholarships are being made possible by award-winning photojournalists John McConnico of Texas and Jean-Marc Bouju of France, both former Daily Texan staffers. The first recipients will be announced on October 4, 2019 at The Friends of The Daily Texan annual Hall of Fame dinner. Without The Daily Texan student-run newspaper, McConnico and Bouju may never have met and shared overlapping, award-winning careers in photojournalism. New Editors Selected for The Daily Texan

The Daily Texan has new editorial leadership, including a new Editor-in- Chief, a new Summer Managing Editor and a new Fall Managing Editor. Spencer Buckner is the 2019-2020 editor-in-chief of The Daily Texan.  A Plan II and journalism junior, he has worked at the Texan since arriving at UT, holding positions in opinion and audio. Editor’s Note – The Longhorn Alumni Band – 300 strong with 230 additional along for support – was one of the lead groups marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day Anniversary June 6. Three Texan staffers have recently received scholarship grants from Friends of The Daily Texan, and the 2019  winners will be announced at the group’s annual dinner Oct. 4. Forrest Milburn, who  currently serves as the spring 2019 managing editor of The Daily Texan, was recipient of the $1,750 Friends scholarship grant at the annual Friends dinner recently. Lorraine Branham, Former Director of UT Journalism School, Dies at 66

Lorraine Branham, former  director of the school of journalism at the University of Texas at Austin from 2002 to 2008, died April 2. Below is her obituary from The New York Times.     By Katharine Q. Friends and supporters of The Daily Texan, student newspaper at the University of Texas-Austin, will gather Oct. 4 for the annual Hall of Fame dinner, sponsored by Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc. In addition to honoring new inductees into The Daily Texan Hall of Fame, scholarship grants will be awarded to Daily Texan staffers.
