Two recent Daily Texan alums to receive Rising Star Awards

Two recent alums of The Daily Texan will be honored as Rising Stars at the March 22 Friends of the Daily Texan Hall of Fame gathering on the UT campus. The Rising Star Award, which is given to recent graduates who have already made a significant contribution in their field, will be given to Ellie Breed, Chief Press Officer at the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and Eleanor Dearman, a Texas politics and government reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Dobson, Wooldridge and Tejemos Foundation fund photojournalism endowment for Daily Texan staffers

A $60,000 grant to provide financial support to photojournalists at The Daily Texan at the University of Texas at Austin has been established by the Tejemos Foundation, founded by Austin residents Lynne Dobson and Greg Wooldridge. The funding will establish a $50,000 endowment to provide an annual grant to a photojournalist working at The Daily Texan, and an additional $10,000 for immediate needs. Dobson, who moved to Austin in the 1970s, worked as a photographer at The Daily Texan. The new editor-in-chief will be Lucero Ponce, the Summer Managing Editor will be Kamryn Brownlee and the Fall Managing Editor will be Morgan Severson.    Lucero Ponce Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Texan for the 2023-2024 school year Lucero Ponce is a rising junior studying journalism and Mexican American & Latino studies. They are: Editor-in-Chief : Megan Tran Megan Tran is The Daily Texan editor-in-Chief for the next year. Samantha Ketterer, Staff writer The Houston Chronicle The Houston Chronicle Editorial Board on May 9 won a 2022 Pulitzer Prize in editorial writing for a series on voter suppression in Texas. The top honor was awarded to writers Lisa Falkenberg, Michael Lindenberger, Joe Holley and Luis Carrasco. Mostly published in a series called, “The Big Lie,” their winning work examined and debunked GOP-driven falsehoods about voter fraud that have persisted for decades. Eight Daily Texan Staffers Receive Scholarship Grants from Donors, Friends Group

Eight staffers from The Daily Texan at The University of Texas at Austin have been selected to receive grants totaling $9,000 for the 2021-22 school year. The grants are sponsored by Friends of The Daily Texan and two sets of donors and are normally presented at the Friends annual Hall of Fame dinner on the University of Texas campus each fall.
