Nine named to 2015 Texan Hall of Fame; induction Oct. 16

The Friends of The Daily Texan is proud to announce the second class of Hall of Fame inductees, which include a Pulitzer Prize winner, the founding editor of The Texas Observer, a five-time Emmy winner and other outstanding alumni and friends of the student newspaper. Editorial Award inductees include Ronnie Dugger, John Pope, Jan Jarboe Russell and Mary Walsh. Liz Smith is being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Lomi Kriel will be recognized as a Rising Star. Nominations open for Texan Hall of Fame

The Friends of The Daily Texan is pleased to announce nominations are now open for The Daily Texan Hall of Fame awards. These awards recognize Daily Texan alumni who have led distinguished careers and individuals who have demonstrated support for The Daily Texan. Since it began publishing five days a week in 1913, The Daily Texan has been a springboard for journalists who have gone on to distinguished careers chronicling politics and the White House; civil rights battles at home and wars in distant lands; science, culture, sports and more—and to win Pulitzers, Emmys and other awards doing so. Friends group elects officers, fills board seats

Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting The Daily Texan, student newspaper at the University of Texas at Austin, has elected a new slate of officers and board members for the upcoming year. President of the group is John Reetz of Atlanta. Reetz has been secretary since the group was formed in 2013, and replaces former president Cliff Avery, who served two terms as president, but remains on the board. John Reetz is co-owner of Media Solutions Partners, an Atlanta-based consulting firm focused on helping media companies transition to a successful and strong digital future. […]

Innovation Fund grant enables Texan to update photography equipment

The Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc., a non-profit group created by Texan alumni to help build a strong future for The Daily Texan, has awarded a grant of about $5,300 to the student newspaper to help cover the cost of replacing and updating photography equipment, as well as other office hardware and reporting supplies. Daily Texan Editor Claire Smith has noted that the newspaper’s leadership is prioritizing visual storytelling in the coming year, and the grant will allow the Texan staff to purchase new camera lenses, a digital recorder, a rig mount, and memory cards to support the photography […]
