Daily Texan suppporters: pay it forward, for student journalists

  The campaign to raise $300,000 for permanent funding for 13 annual scholarships for Daily Texan staff members has passed the halfway mark, with three months left in the 2023 effort. If the goal is met, all 13 grants to be awarded next year will be guaranteed permanent funding via the Friends of The Daily Texan endowment, plus other endowment partners and supporters of student journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Two new honors for Griff Singer: boost to student scholarship in his name, and first Friends of Daily Texan Lifetime Achievement Award

Two new honors have been added to the portfolio of S. Griffin Singer, respected Texas journalist and beloved former UT journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin. At the recent Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc. annual Hall of Fame dinner, Singer was presented the first Friends of The Daily Texan Lifetime Achievement Award by the Friends group. Dobson, Wooldridge and Tejemos Foundation fund photojournalism endowment for Daily Texan staffers

A $60,000 grant to provide financial support to photojournalists at The Daily Texan at the University of Texas at Austin has been established by the Tejemos Foundation, founded by Austin residents Lynne Dobson and Greg Wooldridge. The funding will establish a $50,000 endowment to provide an annual grant to a photojournalist working at The Daily Texan, and an additional $10,000 for immediate needs. Dobson, who moved to Austin in the 1970s, worked as a photographer at The Daily Texan. Texas Student Media director in new, expanded role for Moody College

Gerald A. Johnson, director of Texas Student Media for the past 9 years, has accepted a new position at UT-Austin, but will still retain involvement in Texas Student Media, while adding additional duties for Moody College of Communication. Johnson has assumed the role of Executive Director for Program and Center Innovation and Partnership for the Moody College of Communication. TSM will continue to be one of his responsibilities and he is in the process of looking for a successor in his TSM role. Former Texan staffer boosts Griff Singer Scholarship fund with $25,000 donation

  A $25,000 grant from an Austin journalist and her mother, a 104-year-old former journalist, has provided a significant boost to fully endow the S. Griffin Singer Scholarship, created recently by Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc. The donation is from former Daily Texan staffer and Austin journalist Jo Clifton and her mother, Loretta Diggs Pendergraft. Friends of The Daily Texan create Griff Singer Scholarship for Texan staffer

S. Griffin Singer, respected Texas journalist and beloved former UT journalism professor, has been honored with an annual scholarship to be awarded in his name to a staff member of The Daily Texan. The $2,000 annual grant will come from Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc., a non-profit established in 2013 to provide support for The Daily Texan and its staff. The addition of this scholarship brings the total awarded to 11 Texan staffers to $15,000 from the Friends group and its partner donors.
