Cliff Avery has been re-elected as president of Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc. for another one-year term.
Friends Secretary John Reetz has been re-elected for an additional term.
New officers of the Friends group are:
• Vice President Christine Garrison, replacing former vice president Lilly Rockwell, who remains on the board. Christine spent 1996-99 on The Texan as a reporter, assistant news editor and news editor before serving on the Texas Student Media board. A native Austinite, Christine graduated from UT-Austin with a Journalism degree in 1999. A short media career took her to newspapers in Austin, Houston, Charlotte, N.C., Rock Hill, S.C. and Santa Rosa, Calif. She returned to Austin to pursue a career in politics and government affairs. Between 2005 and 2012 she owned a consulting firm managing communications, fund-raising and strategy for Texas legislators, caucuses, advocacy groups and trade associations including the Texas Press Association and the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. Also in 2005, Christine began publishing an online clearinghouse for jobs in and around the State Capitol. Today, she is focused on growing ChristinesList.org, which now includes media, information and non-profit jobs in Texas.
• Treasurer Alicia Dietrich, replacing A.J. Bauer. Alicia graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2004 with a degree in print journalism and currently works in communications at UT’s Harry Ransom Center. She worked as a copy editor and designer in midsize newspapers for two years after college before transitioning to public affairs in 2006 at the Ransom Center, where she works with media, manages the blog and social media channels, writes press releases and news and feature articles, promotes programs and exhibitions, and oversees a print newsletter and a monthly email newsletter, among other duties. She also does freelance writing and editing projects on the side.
