The Friends of the Daily Texan will hold a benefit luncheon to honor Texas journalist and journalism professor S. Griffin with the inaugural Griff Singer Award for Outstanding Service to the Daily Texan. The luncheon is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17 at the old art museum on the UT campus.
Funds from the event will be used to create the Friends of The Daily Texan Innovation Fund, managed by the alumni group in support of The Daily Texan and its initiatives.
Chairing the event is Jane Chesnutt, former editor of Woman’s Day magazine and a 2011 Distinguished Alumnus. You may contact her at janechesnutt@gmail.com for information.
The luncheon has four main goals:
• To honor Griff, whose impact on both The Texan and so many of our individual careers has been immense.
• To raise money to establish the FoTDT Daily Texan Innovation Fund, to be used for extra-budgetary needs at the Texan, such as supporting digital transition, quality and growth, funding special reporting and developing staff.
• To show strong support for The Texan at a time when its mission of providing top-notch reporting about UT is as or more important than ever.
• To celebrate The Texan.
Ticket prices are:
• $5,000 for an Editor-in-Chief sponsorship
• $2,500 for a Managing Editor sponsorship
• $1,000 for a Digital Editor sponsorship
• $500 for an Senior Writer sponsorship
• $250 for an Ace Reporter sponsorship
• $150 for a Super Ticket
• $100 for a Basic Ticket (please note that this level is likely to pay for expenses only and consequently is unlikely to include a donation to the DT Innovation Fund)
Any amount will be welcome, but if you can, please be generous. If you can’t attend, donations in Griff’s honor will be most welcome.
The luncheon will follow a morning seminar, part of the J School’s 100th anniversary festivities, that Griff will be moderating. The seminar will be at the J-School.
Pamela Mayo Clark has agreed to run the silent auction. Should you have anything to donate, please contact her at pamelamayoclark@austin.rr.com.
The event will be at the Visual Arts Center, 2300 Trinity St., Austin.
