The vendor that scans and hosts The Daily Texan is now fully up to date in building the online archives, which now serves as a repository of every Texan issue back to its founding in 1900.
“Our digital archives reflect day one of the Texan, through August of 2019, said Gerald A. Johnson, Director or Texas Student Media. “Our campus community is especially thrilled with the archive. Whether you work in administration, development or academics – a trip into the archives can help you with your research, special anniversaries, prepare for a visit from a Texas-Ex and more.”
The digital archives went online several months ago and scanning to bring the repository fully up to date was completed several weeks ago. Latest issues will now be scanned and inserted into the online archives on a regular basis.
Students, faculty and staff have free access; the public can subscribe.
To assist in reaching the final stage of the project, the Friends of The Daily Texan pledged to pay costs remaining needed to make the Texan history available to all.
“The Friends group Archive Fund Campaign is underway, and we’ve had several nice donations,” said John Reetz, president of Friends of The Daily Texan. “We welcome your participation and role in preserving the work done to date, and the work to be done in the future to keep all copies of The Texan preserved.”
