The Friends of The Daily Texan Board of Directors has voted to fund an additional scholarship for a Texan staffer, bringing the total to 5 annual grants provided by the Friends plus three generous grants from former Texan staffers. Those three additional grants include one from Becky and Jerry Conn, and two from John McConnico and Jean-Marc Bouju. Sanika Nayak has been elected Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Texan for the 2021-2022 academic year. After being in the opinion department for two years, Sanika was selected to serve on the Diversity and Inclusion Board as Internal Relations Director. In this role, she helps to create an inclusive environment within the Texan and works to ensure that coverage is respectful and representative of all communities on campus. Read more →With COVID-19 forced cancellation of Friends of The Daily Texan Hall of Fame dinner and fund-raiser last fall, the Friends group has created a “virtual” celebration to honor those who would normally be recognized in person. Ten Daily Texan Hall of Fame honorees are being honored and 7 Texan staffers have received scholarship awards. All are recognized in a series of videos on the Friends of The Daily Texan YouTube channel. Trinady started on The Texan as a general reporter in Life and Arts in Fall 2018 and quickly moved up to a senior reporter position during Spring 2019, writing two stories a week, as well as a long form story on barriers disabled students face when applying for accommodations.
