Three new members have been elected to the Board of Directors of Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc. The Friends of The Texan is a non-profit organization founded 9 years ago that supports The Daily Texan, student newspaper at the University of Texas at Austin, by providing scholarships to student journalists and assisting when there are other needs. In addition the group has financially supported creation of a digital archive of all copies of The Texan, plus funding video and camera equipment, projects and other needs of student journalists. Read more →From the Hays Free Press Award-winning journalist Anita Miller Byley, who dedicated more than four decades to telling the stories of the people of Hays County, died Oct. 26, with her husband David Byley and family by her side at Ascension Seton Hospital in Kyle. Miller served as managing editor of the Hays Free Press for more than a year before ill health required her to step down. She worked at the San Marcos Daily Record for 39 years. Read more →The Friends of the Daily Texan has made the first grant to The Daily Texan from the recently-created Innovation Fund, created to support a sustainable future, quality journalism and innovative work at the student newspaper at the University of Texas at Austin.
