Donors to The Texan

Donations

The Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc is a 501 (3)(c) non-profit organization.

The Friends group is all-volunteer. Funds received are provided directly to The Daily Texan and Texas Student Media to support needs of The Texan and staff. Funds are used for editorial projects, travel and coverage, education and training, photographic and video equipment and other needs.

In addition, 10 scholarships for Texan staffers are granted each year:

—  a $1,500 scholarship grant from Becky and Jerry Conn, who met at The Texan and later married;

— two $1,000 scholarships from John McConnico and Jean-Marc Bouju who worked at The Texan and later traveled the globe as Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers for The Associated Press;

— a $1,500 scholarship grant from Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc.;

–three additional grants of $1,000 each from Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc.; one for sports coverage and two awards of $1,000 each to the runners-up for the Friends award;

— a grant of $1,000 for entertainment/arts coverage funded by former staff member John Pope in memory of colleague and friend Middy Randerson;

— a grant of  $2,500 for political coverage, in honor of Rene and Jimmy Wisch by the Wisch Foundation (former Daily Texan Managing Editor Steve Wisch, and his sisters, Linda, Judy (BJ at UT  in Advertising, 1976), Susan (BS. at UT in 1980) and Sharon, the current Editor and Publisher of the Texas Jewish Post;

— a grant of $1,000 for climate and environmental coverage, by Bill Mintz.

The annual grants are supported by the Friends of The Daily Texan Endowment Fund, plus annual donations to the Friends group.
